The Best Kept Secret

in

Hormone Replacement Therapy

As we age, the good hormones decline and the bad hormones increase. Examples of good hormones that declines are testosterone in men and estrogen and progesterone in women. Testosterone declines by 1-2 % every year after age 30. At age 20, Testosterone is at its peak and your level is usually about 900-1100. In your 40’s, 50’s and 60’s or 70’s your testosterone is much lower. This results in being fatigued, loss or decrease libido, low energy and stamina, anxiety and crankiness, depression , less muscle mass, and fat accumulation. As a matter of fact, low testosterone has been linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease. In women, estrogen is very important. It has approximately 400 different functions. Progesterone balances estrogen. The use of Bioidentical hormones is believed to be much safer than synthetic hormones.

Testosterone in men can be administered as a gel, cream, patch, injection or in a pellet form. Although the gel and cream works for some men, it does not work well for a lot of others due to absorption issues. The injection is an effective way to administer Testosterone but the level will rise in a saw tooth fashion with an above desirable level peak in 2-3 days. Some of that testosterone will convert to estradiol or dihydrotestosterone, a hormone responsible for hair loss.

Testosterone or Estradiol is compressed in a small cylinder (grain size) and we call that a pellet. Pellet therapy involves the placement of pellets under the skin. The pellets dissolve slowly and release a steady level of the hormone throughout the day for a period of 4-6 mo. The saw tooth pattern of injection is eliminated. Pellets inserted are 100% identical to the hormones produced by the body and derived from plant based products. Pellet therapy does not adversely affect liver function or affect the clotting factors or increase risk of clot formation. In my opinion, pellet therapy is the most effective way of administering testosterone or estrogen.

The benefits of testosterone pellet therapy:

• Improve sleep

• Increase energy

• Relief of migraine or menstrual headache

• Relief from depression, decrease anxiety

• Increased muscle mass and bone density

• Decreased soft fatty tissue
