Laser liposuction has gained a lot of popularity in the media in the recent years. The idea is simple: The area is numbed with lidocaine mixed with saline, then a penicl lead sized laser is inserted  Once inside the laser is activated. The probe generates heat that softens and melts fat.  After the desired results obtained, a small cannula is introduced and the melted fat is removed using a low suction.  There is a minimal down time for this procedure and patient are able to get back to their routine in 24-48hrs. 

While laser liposuctions sounds extrememly appealing, unfortunately it is not for everyone. It works great for small areas, but larger areas will require power assisted or manual liposuction.
